I Received a copy of a letter from my friend, a member of ErSO activism , a truly awesome hopeful letter today , I couldn’t resist copying and pasting it here with her permission for all of the members to see and feel what I did when I read it. It was written to a member of our group but she was too busy all day to jump on here to post it, so I’m going to ……
Excuse the delay in responding. Dealing with Covid in our lab.
The energy and resilience of the MBC community is inspiring. Although I am not a consultant to Systems Oncology we remain in close contact. Systems Oncology, our laboratory and that of Professor Hergenrother are all working with passion and energy to develop the information needed to move forward to a clinical trial as quickly as possible.
Most current cancer drugs moving toward a clinical trial are either related to an already approved cancer drug, or target the same protein or process in the cancer cell as an FDA approved drug. ErSO and ErSO family members are an entirely new type of cancer drug; this means there is a good deal to do in order to assemble the information for an FDA approved clinical trial.
While we all wish we could provide a specific timeline for clinical transition, it depends on ongoing work guided by Systems Oncology and in the research laboratories.
Moving ErSO or an ErSO family member forward to the clinic remains at the center of our work.

Hoi Wilma, jij hebt me destijds geïnformeerd over deze studie en ik volg je ook met grote interesse hierin. In bovenstaand bericht lees ik dat ze nog bezig zijn om een clinical trial goedgekeurd te krijgen en dat ze daar nog geen tijdschema aan kunnen toevoegen. Dus dat kan nog lang duren...
Heb ik iets gemist bij het lezen waardoor ik jouw enthousiasme en hoop niet helemaal begrijp? Is er nieuws cq vooruitgang die ik over het hoofd zie?

Wat ik verder lees, is dat ze bezig zijn met een medicijn ErSo. En dat er nog steeds onderzoek gaande is. En dat de groep contact hebben met het onderzoek team. Ik kon niet alles plaatsen. Anders moet je via FB het even lezen.
Het positieve is mogelijk dat na een lange tijd, ik zie voor een lange periode geen enkel nieuw wapenfeit vanaf 2019, dat de hoofonderzoeker een bericht heeft gestuurd waarin wordt uitgelegd wat de extra drempel is om een clinical studie te gaan doen. Nu drie jaar verder een reactie van de hoofdonderzoeker is misschien iets positiefs. Dat er niks concreets instaat is natuurlijk spijtig. Echter, ergens op vooruitlopen en iets in de lucht hangen draagt vaak niet bij aan het besluitvormingsproces rond een trial.
